MANDATE:
Implement reusable, scalable, and valuable solutions built on top of WordPress for Interactive One’s content offerings. Collaborate with other disciplines in determining suitable and viable solutions to opportunities. WordPress Engineers are responsible for implementing server-side extensions (plug-ins, widgets, tools, etc.) for Interactive One’s various content sites targeting African-Americans.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
â?¢ Develop and maintain the software powering Interactive One’s content sites
â?¢ Create high-performance, reusable, and well-tested software adhering to department standards
â?¢ Measure and optimize the performance of software solutions
â?¢ Evaluate third-party services and plug-ins
â?¢ Contribute to developing reusable standards and libraries with other software engineers in order to drive technical innovation
â?¢ Participate in departmental code-reviews and discussions
â?¢ Maintain a current understanding of relevant technologies as they arise and leverage them in providing innovative solutions
â?¢ Work closely with members of the engineering group to create reusable, scalable, and valuable software
â?¢ Work closely with members of all disciplines to analyze requirements and design solutions
â?¢ Maintain a transparent and informative workspace
â?¢ Provide estimates and progress updates on ongoing work

EXPERIENCE:
â?¢ 4+ years of professional experience as a software engineer for high-traffic, business-to-consumer websites
â?¢ Experience extending open source content-management systems or publishing tools (WordPress (MU or 3.0) experience a plus_
â?¢ Experience with PHP server-side scripting (other server-side language experience a plus)
â?¢ Experience creating enhanced user-interfaces using JavaScript and AJAX, experience with jQuery a plus
â?¢ Experience developing database-driven applications using MySQL
â?¢ Experience tuning the performance of MySQL and MySQL queries
â?¢ Experience writing scripts to automate common and repetitive tasks
â?¢ Experience with object-oriented programming
â?¢ Experience working in a Linux environment
â?¢ Experience integrating with third-party solutions and services
â?¢ Experience with mobile development a plus
â?¢ Experience with SEO best practices a plus
â?¢ Experience with data migration a plus
EDUCATION: B.S. or M.S. degree in Computer Science, or related field. Strong candidates with significant work experience but no formal education will also be considered.
